Start of SAG-AFTRA Strike Authorization Vote for Video Game Producers is Set for Tuesday

The SAG-AFTRA actors’ union is preparing to send strike-authorization vote information to eligible members targeting video game production companies. This comes as the union is already on strike against Hollywood film and TV studios. In a recent statement, union officials expressed their disappointment with the companies’ failure to address the critical needs of SAG-AFTRA members during negotiations. As a result, the negotiating committee and National Board have unanimously agreed to pursue a member-approved strike authorization when bargaining resumes on Sept. 26.

The video game companies involved in the talks include Activision Productions, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts Productions, Epic Games, Formosa Interactive, Insomniac Games, Take 2 Productions, VoiceWorks Productions, and WB Games.

It’s important to note that the video game agreement is separate from the contract covering film and TV actors, who are also on strike due to stalled talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. However, many key issues, such as compensation and protections against the use of artificial intelligence, are similar between the two. SAG-AFTRA is seeking an 11% retroactive wage increase and 4% increases in the second and third years of the contract, along with additional provisions like mandatory rest breaks, on-set medics during stunts or hazardous work, and vocal stress protections. Voting on the strike authorization will conclude on Sept. 25.
