Bill Simmons, a Spotify executive, referred to Harry and Meghan as “grifters” after their partnership with the streaming platform ended unexpectedly on Friday.

The partnership with Harry and Meghan’s production company, Archewell Audio, was initially announced by Spotify in December 2020 as a “multiyear partnership” aimed at delivering inspiring podcasts.

However, this collaboration has only resulted in a single 12-episode series called “Archetypes,” in which Meghan interviewed notable guests like Serena Williams and Mariah Carey.

The value of the deal was reported to be around $20 million.

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together,” said a joint statement by Spotify and Archewell Audio.

This is not the first time that Bill Simmons, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, has made derogatory remarks about the former working royals. In January, he expressed his embarrassment over sharing the Spotify platform with Harry.

In the past, Simmons has faced criticism for expressing controversial views, including a suspension by ESPN in 2014 due to comments he made about a domestic violence case.

Spotify declined to respond to Simmons’ remarks when approached by CNBC, and Archewell Audio did not immediately comment.
