SoFi Stadium Sets the Stage for an Exciting High School Football Showdown

The football teams of Warren and Downey high schools are set to take the field at SoFi Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, on a Friday night under the brightest lights. This will mark the first-ever high school football game to be played at the new stadium in Inglewood. The victorious team will have the privilege of being invited back and recognized ahead of the college football L.A. Bowl on Dec. 16.

In a statement, Adolfo Romero, Vice President of Programming and Booking at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, expressed the stadium’s commitment to promoting education, health, wellness, and physical activity by hosting various events in the local community. Romero also extended a warm welcome to the students, faculty, and families of Downey High School and Warren High School for the historic game at SoFi Stadium.

The Warren and Downey football programs boast one of the longest rivalries in Los Angeles. In their previous encounter, Warren emerged victorious with a score of 49-22 against Downey. It is worth noting that Downey went on to win the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship that season.

Head coach Jack Williams of Downey High School, a former player himself, expressed the excitement among players for the annual Downey vs. Warren game. He further emphasized the significance of competing in this crosstown rivalry match and being a part of the inaugural high school game at SoFi Stadium, which will create lasting memories for the players.

Warren High head coach Kevin Pearson acknowledged the Downey vs. Warren rivalry as one of the best in Los Angeles high school football. With 28 years of experience coaching in the area, Pearson expressed his gratitude for the selection of their historical rivalry for the first high school football game hosted at SoFi Stadium. He praised the dedication and hard work of the Downey Unified community in making this event possible.

Tickets for the game will be available for purchase starting Thursday at 10 a.m. on ticketmaster.com.
