SNY’s Embrace of Frank the Tank Coverage Prioritizes Mets Home Run

Despite all obstacles, it seems that Frank “The Tank” Fleming could be the Mets’ new fortunate charm. During the SNY broadcast, Frank made an appearance just as Brandon Nimmo hit his ninth home run of the season, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead against the Brewers in the fourth inning. This set the tone for the Mets’ much-needed 7-2 victory on Tuesday. Frank, known as the angriest Mets fan and a prominent blogger and vlogger for Barstool, is never hesitant to express his frustration with the struggling team. However, his on-screen presence came at the perfect time for the struggling Mets.

Shortly after Nimmo’s home run, Francisco Lindor followed suit with his 200th career home run, and Nimmo himself hit another home run in the fifth inning. This marked the fourth time in Nimmo’s career that he hit two home runs in a single game.

Up until Wednesday’s triumph, the Mets had only won two out of their past nine games. John DeMarsico, the Mets director for SNY, played along with the Frank “The Tank” persona by featuring him on the broadcast. He even shared a behind-the-scenes video on Twitter, showing how it all came together in the production truck. DeMarsico humorously commented, “A report on dealing with fan criticism? There’s only one man to shoot. Here’s how the moment came together in the truck.”

The video captures the reaction in the truck when Frank appeared on screen, with someone laughing and saying, “Oh, that’ll be everywhere.” Frank, who had attended the game wearing a paper bag on his head that read “Worst Team Money Can Buy,” finally had something positive to cheer about, or rather, not yell about.

Following the Mets’ loss to the Astros on June 20, Frank unleashed an on-brand rant on Twitter, expressing his frustration with the team’s inability to win consecutively or perform well in series. He stated, “This year is a total disaster. They have to start evaluating now for next year. It begins with getting rid of bums.” After another devastating loss on Monday, Frank went even further with his unhinged rant.

With Tuesday’s victory, the Mets now hold a 36-43 record. Prior to the game, team general manager Billy Eppler spoke to the media, expressing confidence in his players and coaching staff and signaling no major changes in personnel. Team owner Steve Cohen will also address the media before Wednesday’s game.

The Mets have two more games against the Brewers at Citi Field this week, providing an opportunity to build momentum. With more home runs, strong pitching performances, and the positive influence of Frank “The Tank,” the Mets may finally overcome their slump.
