Snoop Dogg joins forces with Petco for an innovative pet-care campaign

Petco has joined forces with legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg for an innovative pet-care campaign.

This collaboration, known as Petco Picks by Snoop, offers a curated selection of toys, treats, and grooming supplies. Additionally, it includes engaging social content featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Snoop Dogg with pets, along with his thoughts on being a dedicated dog owner, as stated in a press release by Petco.

Snoop Dogg expressed, “My pets have to look good, feel good, and smell good.”

The debut ad for this campaign showcases Snoop Dogg personifying a Doberman Pinscher, paying homage to his 1993 hit “Who Am I? (What’s My Name)?” from his album “Doggystyle.”

In 2022, pet owners in the United States spent approximately $136.8 billion on their beloved companions, representing a 13.2% increase from the previous year, according to a survey by the American Pet Products Association.

“We understand that pet parents want the best value for their money and are actively searching for attractive deals on high-quality products,” stated Katie Nauman, Chief Marketing Officer at Petco, in a news release.

Even during periods of financial constraint, Americans continue to prioritize spending on pets, as highlighted by Petco CEO Ron Coughlin in a previous statement.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, pet services costs, including veterinary care, have risen by 10.6% year over year as of May. During the same period, pet food costs increased by 13.8%.

While Petco’s shares have dipped by approximately 9% year to date, its competitor Chewy has experienced a 6% increase in share value.

In order to enhance its competitiveness in the pet-care market, Petco relaunched the Vital Care membership program in March 2022. The program offers savings and additional benefits to consumers.
