Slight Variation in Southland’s Average Gasoline Costs

The price of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County saw a slight increase on Thursday, rising by two-tenths of a cent to reach $5.372. This comes after a series of 35 increases in 37 days, which amounted to a total increase of 39.9 cents. However, the price experienced a minor decrease of one-tenth of a cent the day before.

These figures reveal that the average price of gasoline in Los Angeles County is currently at its highest level since November 18. It is also 1.5 cents higher compared to last week, 28.1 cents higher compared to last month, and 11 cents higher compared to the previous year. These statistics are sourced from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

Notably, the average price of gasoline has actually dropped by $1.122 since reaching a record high of $6.494 on October 5.

In Orange County, the average price of gasoline rose by one-tenth of a cent for the second consecutive day, reaching $5.318. This marks the 27th increase within the past 31 days. It is also the highest price since November 17. Over the past month, the price has risen by 29.4 cents.

Compared to last week, the average price of gasoline in Orange County is now 1.9 cents higher. Additionally, it is 29.4 cents higher compared to last month and 14.5 cents higher compared to the previous year. However, it has decreased by $1.141 since reaching a record high of $6.459 on October 5. Interestingly, there was a period of 22 price increases in 23 days, followed by three consecutive decreases totaling 1.2 cents. Currently, the price has been increasing steadily for the past five days.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline decreased by two-tenths of a cent to $3.825. This drop comes after three consecutive increases totaling nine-tenths of a cent, with Tuesday and Wednesday seeing an increase of four-tenths of a cent each. Compared to last week, the national average is 1.2 cents lower. However, it is 1.6 cents lower compared to the previous year and 6.8 cents higher compared to last month.

It is worth noting that the national average price of gasoline has dropped significantly by $1.191 since reaching a record high of $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
