Simone Biles Sets Unprecedented Record as World’s Most Decorated Gymnast with Latest Triumph

Simone Biles Secures Title as World’s Most Decorated Gymnast in Historic Victory

In a stunning triumph, Simone Biles has become the world’s most decorated gymnast. The American superstar clinched her sixth individual all-around title at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Antwerp, Belgium, as reported by The Associated Press.

“Ten years ago, I won my first worlds. Now we’re back here. So it was emotional,” shared Biles, expressing her sentiments to the AP. “It means everything to me, the fight, everything that I’ve put in to get back to this place, feel comfortable and confident enough to compete.”

Following the Tokyo Olympics, 26-year-old Biles took a two-year break from her career due to mental health concerns, mentioned the AP. The recent addition to her illustrious collection marks her 27th world championship medal.

During the Tokyo Olympics, Biles faced a psychological phenomenon known as “the twisties” in gymnastics, generating immense challenges for her, revealed the AP. Despite being a top contender for the individual all-around champion title in Tokyo, she withdrew from the competition to prioritize her mental well-being.

“I was so much more nervous for team finals because that’s when everything occurred (in Tokyo), so I was a little bit traumatized from that. So today I felt a little bit more relaxed,” Biles expressed after securing her victory on Friday. “So I’m happy that that’s over.”

She credited her progress in mental health to therapy sessions, as well as breathing and visualization exercises.

“Every day I try to think about it, especially in therapy when we talk about it,” Biles acknowledged her accomplishments in therapy, according to the AP. “And I think that’s when all the emotions come up. And I really think about what I’ve done and what we’ve done to the sport and push that forward. So I think it’s really exciting. But all in all, I don’t think it will hit me until I retire and then look back and see everything I’ve done.”
