A 23-year-old German-Israeli woman, Shani (Louk), who was abducted by Hamas militants during the Nova music festival on October 7, has been confirmed dead by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry expressed their devastation in a post on X, previously known as Twitter, on Monday. According to CNN sources, forensic examiners discovered a bone fragment from Louk’s skull, specifically from the petrous part of the temporal bone near the carotid artery. A DNA test confirmed the fragment belonged to Louk. Louk was attending the festival when the border between Gaza and Israel was breached by Hamas. She was kidnapped and subjected to torture by the terrorists. The circumstances surrounding the October 7 attack, along with video evidence showing Louk unconscious on a Hamas truck, led investigators to conclude that the bone fragment belonged to her. During the attack, militants blocked the roads to the festival and surrounded the crowds before opening fire and forcing them to flee. Louk’s mother, Ricarda Louk, spoke to CNN and revealed she last spoke to her daughter during the festival. She expressed hope that her daughter was still alive, but the situation seemed grim. Over 260 bodies were found at the festival site, and the total death toll could be even higher. Louk’s mother sought support from the German government in an effort to secure her daughter’s release. Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, faced pressure from the families of the hostages to strike a comprehensive deal for their release as Israel’s ground operations in Gaza continued. The families demanded answers and urged Netanyahu to prioritize the safety and freedom of their loved ones.
