Shocking Twist: 9-Year-Old Disappears and Parents Receive Ransom Note

Charlotte Sena, a 9-year-old girl who went missing while bicycling at a New York campground, was found safe two days later. Authorities revealed that the girl’s parents received a ransom note at their home prior to her discovery. The fingerprints found on the note, along with cellphone pings from the location where Charlotte was last seen and information from registered campers, helped law enforcement identify the suspect’s associated homes to search. Thanks to these efforts, the little girl was found on Monday at 6:32pm, according to a report by CNN. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Craig Ross Jr., was taken into custody. Fox News states that Ross had his fingerprints on file from a 1999 DWI arrest. News Channel 13 reports that the suspect lives approximately 20 miles from the campground.

Police believe that Ross was in the vicinity at the time Charlotte was last seen, biking around the Moreau Lake State Park campground at 6:15pm on Saturday. She had previously cycled around the loop with family friends and had requested to go once more on her own. When she did not return, her bike was found without her. Authorities discovered Charlotte after surrounding Ross’s mother’s double-wide trailer in Milton, New York, and raiding a camper situated behind it. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced at a press conference that the suspect was located inside the camper. She also mentioned that after some resistance, Ross was apprehended, and the little girl was found covered in a cabinet and promptly rescued. (Read more New York stories.)
