A judge revoked bail on Tuesday for a man who was confined at home while awaiting trial for driving his SUV into a Massachusetts Apple store last year. The incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to nearly two dozen others, according to officials. Bradley Rein, 54, has been ordered to serve 60 days in jail after police discovered that his GPS monitoring bracelet was not working. The Plymouth County DA, Timothy J. Cruz, announced Rein’s return to jail due to his failure to charge the monitoring device. Rein, who previously pleaded not guilty, is facing an upgraded murder charge. He was initially released on $100,000 bail with certain conditions, including not driving and wearing a GPS tracking device, as reported by the AP.

The attorney for Bradley Rein, 53, the man accused of crashing his SUV into a Boston-area Apple store, killing one person and injuring 20 others, claims that the incident was an “unfortunate accident.” Rein has been charged with reckless homicide by motor vehicle and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He is currently held on a $100,000 bail, and if released on bail, he will be prohibited from driving and leaving Massachusetts, according to CNN. The arrest of Rein took place on Monday night after a thorough investigation of the Hingham crash by the Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz.

According to prosecutors, Rein informed the police that he was searching for an eyeglass store when his right foot got stuck on the accelerator of his Toyota 4Runner, resulting in the devastating crash at the shopping area. He attempted to brake with his left foot, but was unable to stop. Prosecutors confirmed that there was no presence of drugs or alcohol in Rein’s system, and he told investigators that he did not have any medical issues that may have impaired his driving, as reported by CBS. Rein consented to a blood draw and a search of his cellphone. A witness stated that the SUV was traveling at around 60mph when it plowed through the glass front of the store, according to NBC Boston.

Rein told the police that there were no known mechanical issues with the SUV. He mentioned that his foot had gotten stuck on the accelerator once before while driving on a highway. The person who lost their life in the incident has been identified as Kevin Bradley, a 65-year-old resident of New Jersey. Apple stated that Bradley was “supporting recent construction at the store.” During a hearing on Tuesday, Rein asserted that he had no connection to Bradley or anyone else in the store. As of Tuesday, eight injured individuals remained at South Shore Hospital, with two of them in critical condition, according to CBS. (Read more Massachusetts stories.)
