A woman from Arizona who was allegedly kidnapped by an acquaintance pretending to be an Uber driver was rescued thanks to her clever move of passing a note to a stranger seeking help. The incident took place on Monday when the woman was abducted outside a car dealership in the Phoenix area. Her mother reported her missing and identified Jacob Wilhoit, a 41-year-old man, as a person of interest. According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, the victim managed to reunite with her family after slipping a note to a customer at a gas station, desperately pleading for assistance.
Wilhoit was arrested on Wednesday and is now facing several charges, including harassment, aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, and kidnapping. Authorities revealed that Wilhoit deceived the woman by posing as an Uber driver and disguising himself with a wig. He then restrained her while driving them from Phoenix to Las Vegas. They spent the night in a park at Lake Mead before stopping at a Chevron station in Seligman, a small location on Route 66. It was at this gas station where the woman alerted another customer, providing them with a note that included her name, a description of the van, a phone number, and a message indicating their direction towards Kingman and Las Vegas.
The customer immediately called 911 and provided a detailed description of the two individuals, informing authorities that they were heading west. State troopers intercepted the van on the highway and apprehended Wilhoit without any trouble. Multiple firearms were visible in the van, as mentioned by the authorities. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the significance of the victim’s courageous act in passing the note, the customer’s willingness to help, and the prompt response from law enforcement, which ultimately saved the victim from her kidnapper and allowed her to return home safely with her family.
