Following a serious public order incident in Dublin city center, Irish police reported that five people, including three young children, were taken to the hospital. Reports from local media indicated that it was a stabbing.
In a statement, the police mentioned that they had a definite line of inquiry and were not seeking any other person at this time.
According to the police, one girl sustained serious injuries, while the other two children are being treated for less serious injuries. An adult female is also being treated for serious injuries, and an adult male has less serious injuries.
Local media reported that the incident took place on Dublin’s Parnell Square, adjacent to O’Connell Street, the main thoroughfare. The police have sealed off the scene.
The Irish Times reported that the chief suspect has been detained and had sustained self-inflicted wounds. Early indications suggested that a man attempted to attack several young people, and passers-by intervened.
The motive for the attack, which occurred near a school on the street, has not been established, added the Irish Times.
