Settlement Reached: Travis Scott Resolves Dispute with Family of Teen Fatalities at Astroworld

The Hilgert family, who tragically lost their 14-year-old son John at the Astroworld concert, has quietly reached a settlement with rapper Travis Scott, Live Nation, Scoremore, and other festival organizers. Rolling Stone reported that the family withdrew their $1 million lawsuit in February, opting for an undisclosed settlement amount. John Hilgert, a high school freshman, was the second youngest victim of the chaos that erupted at the opening night of the music festival in Houston on November 5th, resulting in a deadly crush.

Chris and Nichole Hilgert, devastated parents, filed a lawsuit against Scott, Live Nation Worldwide, and others, alleging “gross negligence” and “reckless disregard” for their son’s safety, ultimately leading to his death, according to People. Chris Hilgert expressed their pain, stating, “The pain of our loss from our son John not making it home alive from an event such as this is intolerable.” Their goal was to bring about change and ensure that new safety measures are put in place to prevent future tragedies. “This pain should never be felt by anyone over a loved one attending a live concert,” Chris Hilgert added.

Scott and the organizers are still facing civil suits from numerous attendees, with potential damages amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. The poor crowd design, event execution, and lack of response exhibited at the festival are inexcusable, according to the grieving father. The lawsuit accused the defendants of failing to provide sufficient security personnel, crowd control measures, and emergency medical support.

The Hilgert family, along with the families of Axel Acosta and Brianna Rodriguez, have decided to settle their lawsuits against Astroworld. However, Scott and the show’s organizers still have a long way to go, as they face ongoing civil suits from thousands of attendees seeking substantial damages. The Post has reached out to Scott and LiveNation for their comments on the matter.
