Canadian police have announced that the attack on a gender studies class at the University of Waterloo was motivated by hate towards gender expression and gender identity. Waterloo Regional Police Service Chief Mark Crowell stated that the attack was premeditated and targeted, describing it as a senseless act of hate. A former international student at the university, 24-year-old Geovanny Villalba-Aleman, has been charged with aggravated assault. Professor Katy Fulfer, as well as a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing incident.
