Senator Dick Durbin Tests Positive for COVID-19 for the Third Time Within One Year

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19, marking his third infection in the past year.

At 78 years old, Durbin announced that he will be following CDC guidelines and isolating at home until his doctor clears him. He will continue working remotely during this time.

In a tweet, Durbin expressed his disappointment at having to miss critical work on the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) due to his diagnosis.

The NDAA, which has already passed in the House with controversial amendments, is set to be discussed in the Senate before the August recess. The White House has criticized these amendments, calling them a hijacking of a bipartisan bill.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID indicators have started to show small increases nationwide. However, COVID deaths have leveled off following a period of decline.

CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen expects three viruses to circulate in the U.S. this winter: COVID, flu, and RSV. She emphasized the need for the American people to understand these viruses and take appropriate measures to protect themselves.
