Secretary Blinken Highlights Hamas’ Responsibility for Detained Foreign Nationals in Gaza; Egypt Offers Support

Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed on Sunday that Hamas has hindered the evacuation of foreign nationals from the Gaza Strip, but Egypt is ready to assist in getting people out and providing aid to the area. During an interview with Randa Abul Azm of Al-Arabiya, Blinken addressed efforts to protect civilians in Gaza and Israel’s ground offensive. He clarified that Israel is not blocking the departure of foreign nationals, but rather Hamas is disrupting the process. Blinken also mentioned that Egypt is prepared to help with evacuations. He emphasized that Egypt, along with the United Nations and other countries, is working to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches the people in Gaza. Blinken criticized Hamas for deliberately endangering civilians and using them as human shields by locating their command centers and weapons in residential areas. He expressed concerns about the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for urgent action to provide assistance.
