Search Continues for Missing Tourists on the Lost Titanic Submarine: Live Updates

According to the latest internal government memo update, a Canadian aircraft searching for the missing vessel reported hearing banging sounds every 30 minutes on Tuesday from the area where the vessel disappeared. This information was initially reported by Rolling Stone magazine.

The memo stated that the RCC Halifax launched a P8 Poseidon with underwater detection capabilities to aid in the search. The aircraft deployed sonobuoys which detected a contact close to the distress position. Banging sounds were heard in the area every 30 minutes, even after additional sonar was deployed four hours later.

Unfortunately, the memo did not specify when the banging sounds were first detected or what may have caused them. A subsequent update mentioned that sounds were detected again on Tuesday night, although they were not described as “banging.” CNN reported that additional acoustic feedback was heard, providing hope for the potential survival of the crew.

An email sent by the president of the Explorers Club, a research group, revealed that additional sounds, described as a tapping noise, were detected at 2 a.m. local time from the location. This implies that the crew may be alive and signaling for help. The email urged the group to contact their representatives to request the use of remote-operated vehicles (ROV) from a private British company. Two members of the Explorers Club were reportedly on board the Titan.

The email mentioned that a UK-based team named Magellan has an ROV suitable for the job, capable of reaching depths of 6,000 meters. However, the US government and USCG had not yet granted them permits to participate in the search.

Rolling Stone reached out to various authorities for comment, including the Boston Coast Guard, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, DHS, and the U.S. Coast Guard, but did not receive a response. CNN also requested comments from OceanGate, the U.S. Coast Guard in Boston, and Canadian authorities, but received no response.

Please note that there was a correction made to this post, as it initially attributed an email to the Explorers Society based on Rolling Stone’s report, when in fact, the group is called The Explorers Club.
