Salma Hayek Pinault Breaks Tradition, Opted for a Hugo Boss Men’s Suit on Her Debut Red Carpet Appearance

  • In an interview with W magazine, Salma Hayek Pinault discussed her first red-carpet experience in the ’90s.
  • During that time, Hayek Pinault had limited connections to designers and only had a connection to Hugo Boss.
  • Due to the lack of options, she wore a men’s suit on the red carpet.

Salma Hayek Pinault revealed that she opted for a men’s suit on her first red carpet due to limited designer options.

In an interview with W magazine for their fourth annual TV Portfolio, Hayek Pinault recalled, “I didn’t have any connections. The only connection I had was to somebody I knew at Hugo Boss, so I wore a man’s suit because no one else gave me anything to wear.”

Hayek Pinault was referring to her appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of the film “The Birdcage” in March 1996.

For the event, she wore a black shirt with a dark-colored suit.

In a 2021 interview with Vogue India, Hayek Pinault, who gained fame on the Mexican telenovela “Teresa” before pursuing opportunities in America, shared the difficulties she faced in finding designers willing to dress her due to her lack of recognition in Hollywood.

“I’m Mexican. I’m also very short, which doesn’t help with the weight and doesn’t help with the design,” she explained. “But you know, I was ingenious. I took chances. I met someone at Hugo Boss, who was the only connection I had, so I wore men’s suits for a while.”
