Sadiq Khan urged to grant grace period to Ulez-affected drivers prior to fines

In a surge of vandalism, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed that a total of 288 crimes related to Ulez cameras have been reported between April and August. This alarming statistic raises concerns about the efficiency of the website and the fact that hundreds of cameras are yet to be installed or are out of action, as pointed out by Keith Prince, a Conservative Assembly member in the Greater London Authority (GLA). Mr. Prince, who also chairs the GLA’s transport committee, expressed his frustration, stating, “It has been chaotic today, and I have witnessed pure anger on the streets. Sadiq Khan has not installed enough cameras as promised. Out of the 2,700 cameras he was supposed to have, only 1,900 have been installed as of last Friday, and approximately 500 of them have been vandalized.”

In Westminster, a gathering of anti-Ulez campaigners took place, demanding the abandonment of the expansion. Protesters displayed placards with messages such as “stop the toxic air lie” and mock car registration plates that read “Get Khan out.” Susan Hall, the Conservative candidate for the next London mayor, criticized the implementation of Ulez, stating, “The first day of Ulez has brought complete chaos, and it is Londoners who are paying the price for it. If Khan had listened to the people, he would never have proceeded with this decision.”
