Sam Asghari, the husband of pop star Britney Spears, has officially filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage, as reported by multiple sources including People and TMZ. The reason stated for the divorce is “irreconcilable differences”, according to TMZ. Asghari is seeking spousal support, attorneys’ fees, and may also challenge the prenuptial agreement signed prior to their marriage in 2022.
Variety has reported that Spears has enlisted the services of celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, known for representing high-profile clients such as Kim Kardashian and Johnny Depp. Spears will also continue to work with her own attorney, Mathew Rosengart, who assisted her in the legal proceedings to end her conservatorship in 2021.
Spears and Asghari first met in 2016 during the filming of Spears’ music video for “Slumber Party”. They exchanged phone numbers at the time and Spears reached out to him months later. The couple made their relationship public in 2017 and tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in 2022, attended by Madonna, Paris Hilton, and Selena Gomez.
Reports suggest that Spears and Asghari had been experiencing ups and downs in their relationship earlier this summer. Asghari was even spotted without his wedding ring in March, reportedly due to filming commitments. Asghari, a model, actor, and personal trainer, immigrated from Iran to the US as a child and founded his own fitness program, Asghari Fitness, in 2020.
In April 2022, Spears announced her pregnancy at the age of 40. However, she later revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage before the wedding. Spears claimed that she was prevented from having children or getting married during her court-ordered conservatorship overseen by her estranged father, Jamie Spears. The conservatorship ended in November 2021.
Spears has two teenage sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, named Sean Preston and Jayden.
