Recap of Season Two, Episodes 1 to 3 of ‘the Wheel of Time’: Unveiling Details and Easter Eggs

In the opening scene of season two of “The Wheel of Time,” the audience is transported to a mysterious building at night. A young girl plays near a metal disk, which bears the same symbol as the one found at the Eye of the World. Moiraine Damodred later reveals that the giant disk was a prison for Ishamael, the leader of the Forsaken. It is possible that the smaller disk seen in the season two opening is connected to the Dark One in some way or holds another Forsaken.

The following scene suggests that there are multiple Darkfriends among the main heroes. The identities of these individuals are concealed, but their clothing provides clues. One of them wears the symbol of the city Fal Dara, where Egwene, Nynaeve, and Perrin were last seen. Another wears a serpent ring, typically worn by the Aes Sedai, indicating that a member of their group may be working for the Dark One in this season. Lady Suroth, the leader of the warriors who attack Perrin and the Shienarans, also makes an appearance, as does Padan Fain, a known Dark One.

The girl interrupts the secret meeting, calling for her mother. Fares Fares’ character, Ishamael, reappears and tries to calm her down. Ishamael, a powerful channeler, had been imprisoned for years until Rand accidentally freed him in the season one finale. Moiraine, who lost her ability to use the One Power, attempts to use it on water but fails. This parallels a scene from the previous season and underscores the changes she has undergone.

Egwene and Nynaeve are now in the White Tower, where they are learning to use their abilities. Egwene can be seen cleaning in a room, the presence of the Amyrlin Seat’s gown suggesting that she is in her own quarters. She later informs Nynaeve that the Amyrlin Seat is not present in the White Tower.

Cuendillar, an unbreakable material created using the One Power, resurfaces in season two. Broken pieces of this material indicate that someone is breaking the disks made of Cuendillar, which are used to imprison the Forsaken. Rand encounters a man suffering from memory loss who believes they are still in the midst of the Aiel War, highlighting Rand’s inability to escape his past.

In episode three, Nynaeve undergoes an initiation rite to advance within the Aes Sedai organization. She must face her darkest fears by passing through three arches, each of which is a ter’angreal, ancient objects created using the One Power. The concept of ter’angreal was introduced earlier in the series with the magical oath rod confirming Moiraine’s exile from the White Tower.

Throughout Nynaeve’s trials, the Crimsonthorn root, a deadly herb, recurs in both the past and present realities she experiences. This root was previously shown while Nynaeve was being introduced to the wonders of the Aes Sedai. The Red Ajah, a group within the Aes Sedai, also plays a recurring role in Nynaeve’s trials.
