I recently had the opportunity to spend 10 days in Gran Canaria, one of the eight captivating Canary Islands.
Gran Canaria is a tropical paradise boasting picturesque palm trees and pristine crystal-blue beaches that truly seem surreal. During my stay, I opted for the southern part of the island, which offers sandy shorelines, while the northern part features rocky beaches.
According to a Statista study, Spain welcomed 2.8 million American tourists in 2022, experiencing a significant annual increase of 250%. Furthermore, the Canary Islands emerged as the third most-visited Spanish region by international travelers in 2021, as reported by Canarian Weekly, with data sourced from the National Institute of Statistics. This highlights the growing popularity and allure of this destination.
Surprisingly, a 2022 Mabrian study reveals that American tourists often overlook the Canary Islands in favor of larger cities like Barcelona and Madrid. In a sample group of 38,933 American tourists, only 1,014 visited Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. However, I believe this is a missed opportunity, as Gran Canaria offers a diverse landscape that allows you to explore mountains, deserts, and beaches all in one remarkable day. Adding to its appeal, the locals are exceptionally friendly and language barriers were virtually non-existent during my visit.
