For woke politicians, violent crime is only a concern when it personally affects them. Allow me to introduce Shivanthi Sathanandan.
Sathanandan, a prominent member of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, made a promise to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department in the wake of George Floyd’s killing.
She passionately urged, “Say it with me. DISMANTLE The Minneapolis Police Department.” According to her, the department had “systematically failed the Black Community.” Hence, it was time to establish a new infrastructure that benefits ALL communities.
However, she experienced a carjacking and suffered serious injuries outside her house, and her perspective abruptly changed.
On Facebook, she passionately stated, “These men knew exactly what they were doing. I have absolutely no doubt that they have done this before. Yet, they are still on OUR STREETS, killing mothers and inflicting psychological trauma on innocent children. This trauma simply cannot be eased by a lifetime of therapy. We must hold them accountable for their actions!”
She further emphasized, “Remember me when you contemplate supporting the release of juveniles and young individuals from custody, allowing them to freely roam our streets instead of being held accountable for their actions.”
This blatant hypocrisy is evident. Where was this outrage when policies advocated by individuals like Sathanandan contributed to a surge in crime in Minneapolis (as well as in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York)?
Minneapolis, like other major cities, experiences disproportionate crime rates among black communities. Recent statistics indicate that around 65% of murder victims in Minneapolis are black, while the city’s population is 63% white.
This situation clearly shows that someone is failing the black community here.
