Ranking Every ‘The Walking Dead’ Spin-Off Show from Worst to Best

2. “Fear the Walking Dead” has had a remarkable run in its early seasons, but unfortunately, it has declined and now stands as one of the lowest-rated TV shows in recent years.

There’s hope that “Fear” can end on a positive note in its final episodes now that Madison appears to be taking charge of the show again.

It’s hard not to consider “Fear TWD,” the first spin-off of “TWD,” as more significant on this list.

However, “Fear” often feels like it consisted of two different shows led by different showrunners.

The first three seasons of “Fear” were exceptional, depicting the journey of Madison Clark’s (Kim Dickens) family as they escaped Los Angeles during the early days of the apocalypse. However, when original showrunner Dave Erickson stepped down and the show took a different direction by killing off Clark, the ratings took a sharp decline.

The show became overrun by characters from “TWD,” who competed for screen time with the already large cast of “Fear.”

Oftentimes, the original “Fear” crew would be sidelined for “TWD” characters or newly introduced heroes and villains from “Fear.”

Despite an unexpectedly good sixth season that focused on smaller-scale episodes due to the pandemic, “Fear” stumbled again in the seventh season, becoming nearly unwatchable at times.

This was primarily due to nonsensical decisions made by characters that put themselves in unnecessary danger, even years into the apocalypse.

The series also started reinventing its main characters each season, making many of them unrecognizable. (Fans often cite Alicia, played by Alycia Debnam-Carey, painting trees for an entire season when discussing where “Fear” went wrong.)

Despite bringing Madison back in the final seasons, mostly due to fan demand, the show has strangely kept her separated from much of the original cast and failed to reunite her with her daughter before the actor left the series, which disappointed Kim Dickens.

Although it seemed likely that this show would eventually align with “TWD,” it now appears that this will not be the case with only six episodes remaining.

“Fear” probably should have concluded a few seasons earlier before some of its stars (such as Colman Domingo) became too busy to appear regularly on the series.
