Home Theft Scheme Leads to Arrest of Long Beach Man

A 67-year-old man from Long Beach appeared in court for the first time on Monday, facing charges related to a home theft scheme in Orange County. Court records indicate that the scheme resulted in approximately $2 million in losses.

The defendant, Raymond Edward Jirak, has been held without bail and was arrested in February. His initial court appearance took place at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, and his arraignment has been rescheduled for July 14. During the arraignment, a motion to set bail will be heard.

A co-defendant, Andrew Stephan Hutchings, a 64-year-old resident of Long Beach, pleaded not guilty in February to 35 counts, which include conspiracy to commit a crime, grand theft, attempted grand theft, forgery, and possession of a forged driver’s license. Hutchings faces sentencing enhancements for aggravated white-collar crime surpassing $500,000. Raymond Jirak faces the same charges.

Hutchings is set to have a preliminary hearing on September 7 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

According to the criminal complaint, in October 2020, Hutchings allegedly posed as a homeowner to sell a property located at 1634 W. Orangewood Ave. in Anaheim. The complaint further alleges that both Jirak and Hutchings forged the victim’s signature on a purchase agreement for the sale.

The complaint also states that the defendants placed orders for gold eagle coins with multiple vendors.

The same conspiracy was allegedly attempted for a property at 20072 E. Frank Ave. in Orange, as outlined in the complaint.

The complaint states that a total of three homes were stolen in the scheme. The residence at 2843 W. Orange Ave. in Anaheim was estimated to be worth $415,000, the property at 1634 W. Orangewood Ave. in Anaheim was valued at $600,000, the property at 20072 E. Frank Lane in Orange was valued at $325,000, and the property at 11742 Della Ave. in Garden Grove was valued at $700,000.
