Questlove raves about André 3000’s upcoming comeback album, calling it “good medicine”.
Last week, the former OutKast rapper shared details of his first solo album in 17 years. The 87-minute record is said to be a departure from his usual style, consisting of experimental flute music. Titled ‘New Blue Sun’, it’s set for release this Friday.
Questlove, The Roots’ drummer, expressed his enthusiasm for André 3000’s new project on Instagram, likening it to innovative “departure albums” like The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Peppers’ and Prince’s ‘Dirty Mind’. In his lengthy post, Questlove called the upcoming album a must-listen for “newbie meditators/microdosers/“time-out-for-me—before-I-hurt-someone” individuals who are looking for “good medicine music”.
It’s reported that ‘New Blue Sun’ will feature André showcasing his talent with woodwind instruments, delivering a refreshing, meditative approach to music. André explained that the album will bring listeners to a “new world” and represents a significant shift in his musical direction.
It has been a long time since André’s last solo work, with his last musical release being ‘The Love Below’ from OutKast’s 2003 double LP “Speakerboxxx”. While André has been less active in music, the hype around his upcoming album has been escalating since earlier this summer when Killer Mike confirmed that the artist was working on a new project.
