Public Viewing of Mike Enriquez’s Wake Scheduled for Sept. 2

The family of seasoned newscaster and local news icon Mike Enriquez has graciously opened his wake to the public, starting from September 2, Saturday, at the Christ The King Parish in Greenmeadows, Quezon City. This gesture serves as a tribute to the remarkable life of Enriquez, who sadly passed away on August 29 after battling a prolonged illness.

The wake, open to the general public from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., is expected to bring together esteemed personalities from the media industry and politics. Instead of sending flowers, guests are encouraged to make donations to the GMA Kapuso Foundation, aligning with Enriquez’s dedication to uplifting the lives of others.

Nicknamed “Booma” within media circles, Enriquez gained significant recognition as a television and radio newscaster, solidifying his position as one of the pillars of GMA News. From providing comprehensive coverage of elections, disasters, and significant historical events to exposing injustices through his investigative program “Imbestigador,” Enriquez became the voice of the common people’s pursuit of justice and accountability from the government.

In addition to being a highly acclaimed TV journalist, Enriquez headed GMA’s radio operations, overseeing dzBB, before assuming a consulting role following his retirement. Over the years, his iconic catchphrases such as “Excuse me po,” “Hindi namin kayo tatantanan,” “Naloko na!” and “Pasok!” have evolved into distinct trademarks, further cementing his status as a beloved former radio disc jockey known as “Baby Michael.”

While the specific cause of Enriquez’s passing has not been disclosed, it is known that he battled various health conditions. In 2018, he underwent a bypass procedure due to a heart ailment, and he underwent a kidney transplant last year. Despite these challenges, Enriquez made a remarkable recovery and returned to air in March 2022, just in time for the coverage of the national elections. Unfortunately, several weeks later, he had to take a medical leave once again.

In summary, Mike Enriquez’s wake, which has been made accessible to the public, is a testament to his incredible legacy as a respected journalist and advocate for justice. His contributions to the media industry and his unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of his fellow Filipinos will forever be remembered.
