Prosecutor reveals terror suspect’s allegiance to ISIS before stabbing teacher

20-Year-Old Chechen Immigrant Swears Allegiance to ISIS Before Deadly Attack in France

Last week, a 20-year-old Chechen immigrant on France’s terror watchlist committed a heinous act, killing a teacher and injuring others at the Lycee Gambetta High School in Arras. Prosecutors in France revealed that the attacker had pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State group just moments before the assault. French authorities had been monitoring the suspect closely for weeks and had even detained him the day prior to the attack, but he was released due to a lack of evidence.

A video recorded by a bystander captured the attacker struggling in the school’s courtyard, and it was later discovered that he had a recording of his allegiance to ISIS on his phone. According to Jean-Francois Ricard, France’s anti-terror prosecutor, the video showcased the attacker expressing his deep hatred for France, the French people, democracy, and the education system he had received in the country.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack, labeling it as an act of “barbarism” and stating that the teacher had been assassinated in a cowardly and savage manner. Alongside the slain teacher, at least two others were gravely injured in the attack, including a courageous school administrator who attempted to intervene.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Mogouchkov, had previously attended the school. He has since been charged with terrorism, along with two of his relatives, including a 16-year-old brother. The incident occurred almost three years after the beheading of French teacher Samuel Paty by a radicalized Chechen. Though it happened amidst ongoing tensions in Israel, authorities have not established a direct connection to the Israeli conflict.

The Islamic State group has become known for their graphic propaganda and their encouragement of sympathizers to carry out attacks anywhere in the world. Designated as a foreign terrorist organization, they have instigated fear and violence across various regions.

As investigations continue, the French interior ministry has implemented a ban on demonstrations supporting the Palestinians throughout the country.
