Prince Harry and Meghan Markle end Spotify partnership following non-renewal of podcast for second season, involving a noteworthy $20M agreement for a single season

Meghan Markle’s highly-anticipated podcast, “Archetypes,” will not be returning for a second season, according to sources. The Archewell media company, founded by Markle and Prince Harry, reportedly failed to produce enough content to meet the requirements of their $20 million deal with Spotify. This news follows Spotify’s recent announcement of job cuts and a shift in their podcasting strategy.

In a joint statement, Spotify and Archewell Audio expressed mutual agreement to part ways, while acknowledging their pride in the series they created together. An Archewell Productions spokesperson informed The Wall Street Journal that Meghan Markle is actively working on developing new content for the Archetypes audience, albeit on a different platform.

The Duchess of Sussex hosted a total of 12 episodes of “Archetypes,” which delved into the societal labels that impede women’s progress. The podcast, which premiered in August 2022, featured notable guests including Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, and Paris Hilton. Each episode lasted approximately an hour.

During the official mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II in September, Markle put the podcast on hold. The final episode, titled “Man-ifesting A Cultural Shift,” featured guest appearances by Trevor Noah, Andy Cohen, and Judd Apatow. The episode was released on November 29.

In addition to their Spotify deal, Harry and Markle signed a lucrative agreement with Netflix in 2020, estimated at $100 million. Their docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” was a resounding success for the streaming platform. Harry also surprised the world with the release of his memoir, “Spare,” a 400-page revelation that hit bookshelves in January.

Looking ahead, Markle and her team at WME are reportedly exploring opportunities in film and TV production, brand partnerships, and overall business development. However, a return to acting is not a focal point for the former “Suits” actress. The Post has reached out to representatives for Harry and Markle for further comment on the podcast’s cancellation.
