August 30, 2023 (UPI) — The Telluride Film Festival has officially unveiled its lineup for its 50th anniversary edition. The festival will run from Thursday through Monday.
Telluride Film Festival follows the tradition of announcing its program a day before the festival commences. This year’s lineup includes 49 new films, 16 repertory screenings featuring various new restorations, and four documentary shorts.
The feature selection introduces Saltburn, directed by Emerald Fennell, which just released its trailer. Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat is also part of the program.
Renowned filmmaker Wim Wenders contributes two films, Perfect Days and the documentary Anselm.
Other notable inclusions are Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, Steve McQueen’s Occupied City, Pablo Larrain’s El Conde, Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.
Lanthimos, Wenders, and Alice Rohrachwer, whose La Chimera is also part of the festival, will be honored with Silver Medallion Awards and retrospectives of their work.
Ethan Hawke will present All That Jazz, while McQueen will showcase Zéro de Conduite as curated Guest Director screenings. Alfonso Cuaron selected Jonah Who Will Be 25 in the Year 2000, and Mira Nair included The Music Room in the program.
Furthermore, films like Cassandro, Kim’s Video, and Beyond Utopia, which premiered at Sundance in January, will also be showcased at Telluride.
However, the presence of celebrities at the fall film festivals remains uncertain as most productions fall under the AMPTP contract, which SAG-AFTRA is protesting. Some films are exempt from this contract or have interim agreements allowing actors to promote them.
While writers are still on strike, directors are able to promote their films as the Directors Guild of America has signed a new contract with the AMPTP.
