Police allege that a gang had previously targeted vehicles along Angeles Crest Highway multiple times before committing murders, as reported by the Orange County Register.

A notorious street gang has been identified as the culprits behind a series of robberies along the Angeles Crest Highway, leading up to the tragic murder of a 32-year-old man and his uninjured passenger at a scenic overlook. The Pasadena Police Department has made significant progress in connecting the gang to several other violent crimes committed in Los Angeles County within the past week. While six gang members were initially arrested, only three of them were charged with robbery, and the others were released shortly after. Luis Ventura, 23, is accused of using a firearm to commit the robbery that resulted in the death of Jessie Munoz. Wendy Cerritos, 20, and Rossel Josue Hernandez, 21, both from Los Angeles, have been charged with multiple counts of robbery in connection with previous incidents on the Angeles Crest Highway. Although no one has been charged with Munoz’s murder, the robbery charges buy more time for the Robbery/Homicide Unit of Pasadena to build a stronger case in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The case is expected to be reviewed by prosecutors over the weekend, with the possibility of additional charges being filed on Monday. Pasadena is also working alongside sheriff’s detectives to link the same gang members to a double homicide in Rancho Palos Verdes that occurred just two days after the Angeles Crest Highway murder. The suspects approached a Subaru owned by Jorge Ramos and opened fire, killing him and his passenger, TaylorRaven Whittaker. Another suspect, believed to be a woman, acted as the getaway driver. The cases may be filed separately with the District Attorney’s Office but could potentially be combined at a later stage. The suspects and their vehicle were identified through undisclosed technology, and the arrest of the original six suspects was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Pasadena Police Department’s SWAT team, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the LAPD. The suspects were apprehended after a pursuit across Los Angeles County, which was captured in a recording posted on YouTube by Key News Network.
