Platonic Co-Parenting: An Idea Gaining Popularity

More and more people are considering the idea of platonic parenting as an alternative to conventional parenting, writes Leanne Italie for the AP. Platonic parenting refers to two or more people who choose to have a child and parent together without being romantically involved. This approach has been around for years among the LGBTQ+ community but is gaining ground among heterosexuals, partly due to the pandemic. Platforms like Modamily offer people the opportunity to find family-building partners, known sperm donors, or financial and care support. Nick Farrow, for example, found a parenting partner on Modamily after a long-term romance did not work out. They live separately, about 15 miles apart, and raise their daughter under a platonic arrangement that has flourished for nine years. Platonic parenting is a flexible option that can suit different needs, but experts advise setting up a thoughtful structure to avoid future conflict.
