Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3: Unveiling the Ultimate All-Season Performance Tire for North America

For fans of performance living in a four-season part of the world, the challenge of finding a one-size-fits-all tire is always present. Pirelli believes it has the solution with the P Zero AS Plus 3, an ultra high performance tire that’s capable of handling all seasons. This tire is a notable addition to the UHP segment as it has been completely redesigned for 2023 compared to its predecessor, the P Zero All Season Plus.

To be more specific, this addition is significant for tire shoppers in North America. According to Pirelli, 94 percent of tires sold in this market are all-season rubber. This figure is quite substantial, which led the Italian brand to invest considerable time in developing the AS Plus 3 to provide better grip in all conditions, especially under braking. Additionally, since North America is a place where drivers cover long distances, Pirelli also focused on improving tire wear and rolling resistance.

To achieve its performance, the AS Plus 3 features a new tread pattern that incorporates 3D sipe technology. This advancement helps enhance performance in wet and snowy conditions. Pirelli claims that the tire performs 20 percent better in snow braking and 10 percent better in wet conditions compared to its predecessor. Moreover, the tire also boasts a 4 percent improvement in dry braking compared to the previous model.

However, the tread is not the only factor at play. The P Zero AS Plus 3 also utilizes a new compound that improves both grip and tire wear. This results in a 25-percent improvement in wear and a 10-percent decrease in rolling resistance. Furthermore, Pirelli states that even when the tire is half worn, it retains 99 percent of its overall performance. The tire comes with a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty, and even at the end of its life, it still delivers 82 percent of its performance.

Now, while that’s what Pirelli claims, let’s talk about real-world performance. Tire guru and head of Tyre Reviews Jonathan Benson joined Pirelli at the tire’s launch in June. He found the steering response to be quite impressive and followed up with a comprehensive ultra-high performance tire test. In this test, he compared the new P Zero AS Plus 3 against six performance-focused all-season competitors. You can watch his video, embedded at the top of this article (set to start with the Pirelli review at the five-minute mark), to see the detailed results. Overall, the new Pirelli tire ranked near or at the top in various categories.

“The P Zero AS Plus 3 is a testament to Pirelli’s focus on the North American Region and its commitment to developing products that meet the specific needs of this market,” stated Pirelli North American President and CEO Claudio Zanardo. “We’re confident that this tire will surpass our customers’ expectations by providing a great driving experience and delivering exceptional performance in all conditions.”

The P Zero AS Plus 3 is currently available in 31 sizes ranging from 17 to 20 inches.
