Phony US Marshal Arrested after Cops Respond to Strange Siren

A man in Florida has been accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, an officer stopped for gas when he heard an unfamiliar emergency siren with no emergency in the area. He pursued and pulled over a black pickup truck that had red and blue emergency lights. The driver, wearing a hat that said “Police US Marshal,” claimed to be a US Marshal investigating a shooting, but there were no reported shootings in the area, as stated in a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.

The driver, identified as 52-year-old Derry Lambert, told the officer he worked in Texas but was currently in Florida. The officer called the sheriff’s office US Marshals Liaison, who spoke to Lambert over the phone. Lambert claimed to be investigating two gangs riding on a four-wheeler and breaking into people’s houses. When asked about his district as a US Marshal, Lambert initially said “Dallas,” but later responded with confusion when asked in person.

The liaison informed Lambert that if he truly was a US Marshal, he would know his district. The US Marshals Service has 94 federal districts, with Texas divided into eastern, western, northern, and southern districts. During a search of Lambert’s pickup truck, police found a firearm and Diazepam without a prescription. Lambert was subsequently arrested on charges including impersonating an officer, obstructing police, drug possession, and use of a firearm during a felony. Authorities are urging anyone who encountered Lambert posing as a Marshal to contact them. (Read more about this story on WCJB.com)
