Phillies’ Newly Acquired Pitcher, Taijuan Walker, Triumphs in Sixth Consecutive Start

The New York Mets may now be lamenting their decision not to pursue Taijuan Walker more aggressively during the offseason.

Walker, a seasoned right-hander and former member of the Mets’ rotation, has emerged as a crucial player for the Philadelphia Phillies, who have won their 11th consecutive road game with an 8-4 victory over the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays.

This win streak is now the third-longest in Phillies history, trailing a 13-game run in 1976 and a 12-game stretch across the 1887 and 1888 seasons.

Contributing to the Phillies’ recent success, Walker has won his sixth consecutive start, improving his record to 10-3 with a 4.02 ERA for the season.

In this particular match, Walker displayed his perseverance by delivering a solid seven-inning performance even though he struggled early on, allowing four runs and five hits in the first three innings.

Despite his struggles in this outing, Walker managed to walk away with the win after a hard-fought seven-inning performance where he allowed four runs and five hits.

Referring to Walker’s performance as “effectively wild,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson expressed his satisfaction with the veteran’s contribution to the team’s recent 21-7 record over the past 28 games.

Walker had been on an impressive streak in his previous five starts, allowing only three runs in 32 innings pitched.

The 30-year-old pitcher expressed his pride in being able to find his rhythm after a rough start to the game.

Reflecting on his decision to join the Phillies, Walker acknowledged the lack of communication from the Mets during the offseason and appreciated the Phillies’ strong interest in signing him to a four-year, $72 million deal.

During his two seasons with the Mets, Walker compiled a record of 19-16 with a 3.98 ERA and earned his only All-Star Game selection as a replacement in 2021.

In their latest game, Bryce Harper recorded two hits, extending his streak of consecutive games with two hits to five.
