The new Peugeot E-3008 could finally alleviate the range anxiety that has deterred many motorists from purchasing an electric vehicle (EV).
Peugeot promises a range that has been previously unattainable for mid-market cars.
Even drivers of luxury electric vehicles from Mercedes and BMW struggle to achieve the same numbers in real-world driving conditions.
Even if the E-3008 can only manage 600km on the road, it will still be a significant milestone for an EV and address a major concern.
During her visit to Dublin, Peugeot’s CEO Linda Jackson disclosed the number but did not provide specific technical details. She did, however, emphasize that the 700km range is made possible by the all-new medium platform developed by the 14-brand Stellantis group, of which Peugeot is a part.
The combination of design, more efficient batteries with denser cells, and lower wind resistance are central to achieving the 700km capacity provided by this platform.
This platform will serve as the foundation for many other EVs within the group, which is investing €30bn in its transition to electric vehicles.
If the E-3008’s efficiency can be replicated across other Stellantis brands, it will benefit both EV buyers and sellers.
The platform will also allow for the production of lower-cost internal combustion cars, such as mild hybrids.
While the price of the E-3008 has yet to be revealed, Jackson acknowledged the need to narrow the price gap between ICE and EV.
Reducing the cost of batteries is crucial for Stellantis, and this could be accomplished by producing batteries locally rather than relying on imports from China.
In order to make EVs more accessible, governments must improve infrastructure and maintain or increase incentives. However, incentives are being reduced by the government.
