Peruvian Scientists Present Remarkable Recreation of Inca Sacrificed Maiden

Arequipa, Peru – In a stunning revelation, a lifelike reconstruction of a young girl sacrificed to Incan gods over 500 years ago was unveiled in Peru. Utilizing three-dimensional scans of her well-preserved mummy, scientists from both Peru and Poland were able to recreate her head and torso.

The mummy was discovered in 1995 inside an Inca-era funerary bundle near the Ampato volcano in Peru’s south. The digital scans of the mummy played a crucial role in producing the highly realistic recreation.

The Inca empire, which once spanned a massive area in western South America, fell to Spanish invaders in 1532. The girl, known as the Lady of Ampato or Juanita, was sacrificed before this event as a means to seek divine relief from natural disasters.

The Lady of Ampato was believed to be around 14 or 15 years old at the time of her sacrifice. The reconstructed face, based on the three-dimensional technology, portrays her with slightly open mouth and dark, piercing eyes that seem to gaze into the distance. Her attire, head covering, and adornments were also recreated based on the scans.
