Paul offers hilarious contrast for Warriors’ poor shooting vs. Suns originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Chris Paul isn’t worried about the Golden State Warriors’ poor shooting performance in their season-opening loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. In fact, he finds it amusing, considering he has experienced much worse in the past.
During a press conference after the game, Paul was asked about the Warriors’ tough shooting night, where they only shot 35.6 percent from the field and 23.3 percent from beyond the arc. As a 19-year NBA veteran, Paul has had his fair share of off-shooting nights, but one occurrence stands out above the rest.
“I was on a team that missed 27 straight threes. I don’t think that’s going to be the case here, knock on wood.”

“Yeah, I ain’t really worried about the shooting. I’ve been on a team that missed 27 straight threes,” chuckled Paul. “I don’t think that’s going to happen here. Knock on wood.”
“With the talented shooters we have and the unselfishness of our players, I trust the shots we take every night.”
Paul is referring to Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals, where his Houston Rockets missed an astounding 27 consecutive three-pointers, finishing the game with a dreadful 7 for 44 (15.9 percent) shooting from beyond the arc. Coincidentally, their opponents were the Warriors, who went on to win the game and eventually sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
Although Paul was inactive due to a hamstring injury for Games 6 and 7, he will always remember the Rockets’ abysmal shooting performance that night.
Therefore, no matter how much the Warriors may struggle on any given night, Paul knows that he has experienced far worse before.
