Patriots to Host Ezekiel Elliott for Visit as Free Agent Running Back

The New England Patriots are actively pursuing top-tier free agent running backs, and their latest target is Ezekiel Elliott. According to reliable NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots will be hosting Elliott for a visit on Saturday. This will be the first official meeting for Elliott with a team since his release from the Dallas Cowboys in March.

In addition to Elliott, the Patriots are also reportedly interested in Dalvin Cook, who is currently a free agent. Cook has scheduled a visit with the New York Jets on the same day as Elliott’s visit with the Patriots. Both Elliott and Cook are highly sought-after backs in the market, and their potential signings would greatly strengthen any team’s offense.

Initially, it was believed that Elliott would be returning to the Cowboys at a reduced salary. However, recent developments have made it less likely, and Elliott has since compiled a wish list consisting of the Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, none of these teams have shown reciprocated interest in signing Elliott.

If Elliott does end up joining the Patriots, it would mark the second team of his seven-year NFL career. The talented running back has been with the Cowboys since he was selected as the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft. While he has had successful seasons, none have surpassed his rookie year performance, where he accumulated 1,631 yards, 15 touchdowns, and an average of 108.7 yards per game.

However, last season saw a dip in Elliott’s performance, as he recorded a career-low 876 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also played a puzzling role in the Cowboys’ disappointing season-ending playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, even taking up the position of center in a play that posed no threat to the 49ers’ lead.

With Tony Pollard being expected to take over as the lead back for the Cowboys this season, Elliott is now exploring his options with other teams. The Patriots have emerged as a potential landing spot, and their visit with Elliott on Saturday could potentially pave the way for a new chapter in his NFL career.
