Passenger Refuses to Comply, Forcing Flight to Divert

On a flight from Paris to Detroit, a Delta Air Lines plane had an unexpected detour due to an unruly passenger. The plane, Flight DL97, departed from Charles de Gaulle Airport and was in the air for just over six hours before landing at Stephenville Dymond International Airport in Newfoundland, Canada, instead of Michigan. According to Cpl. Jolene Garland from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a 34-year-old man on board was behaving unruly and appeared intoxicated. The FlightAware tracking data confirms the diversion.

At Stephenville airport, the man who broke free from the crew members and was causing violence on the plane was detained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Several passengers stepped in to assist the crew members and help hold the unruly passenger down. Although the situation was scary for a brief period, the plane successfully landed in Canada thanks to the joint effort of passengers and crew members.

After an hour and a half in Canada, the plane resumed its journey to Detroit. Delta Air Lines issued a statement expressing their zero tolerance for unruly behavior that compromises the safety of their customers and flight crew. The unidentified passenger is now facing charges of endangering an aircraft and is scheduled to appear in court in Stephenville on Monday, according to Garland.
