Pakistan train crash leaves a death toll of over 30 and 90 injured

A tragic train derailment in southern Pakistan caused the loss of 30 lives and left more than 90 others injured, as reported by local officials.

The Hazara Express train, bound for Rawalpindi, derailed near the Sarhari railway station in Nawabshah, Pakistan. Mahmoodur Rehman Lakho, a senior railway officer, revealed that ten cars of the train had derailed, with some of them even overturning during the incident.

Videos captured the heroic rescues of women, children, and elderly passengers who were trapped in the damaged and overturned train cars. The local community also played a crucial role by distributing food and water to those affected.

The injured individuals were immediately admitted to the nearby People’s Hospital in Nawabshah for medical treatment and care.

In light of the accident, train traffic on the main railway was temporarily suspended, and repair trains were deployed to the scene. Mohsin Sayal, another senior railway officer, assured that alternative travel arrangements and medical assistance would be provided to the affected passengers.

Following the completion of the rescue efforts and the safe evacuation of the wounded, Abid Baloch, a senior railway officer, stated that the investigation into the exact cause of the crash would begin. Suspicion is cast upon a mechanical failure or potential sabotage.

Pakistan Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, confirmed that the Pakistan Army, Sindh Rangers, and the provincial government had contributed to the rescue efforts. Despite the speculations, Rafique emphasized that it was premature to draw conclusions before a thorough investigation.

Reacting to the tragic incident, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow and requested a report from the railway authorities regarding the accident. He extended his prayers and condolences to the families of the victims.

As we mourn this devastating loss, we also acknowledge the tireless efforts of Pakistan Railways, Rescue, and the Pakistan Army personnel who bravely assisted the affected individuals.
