Authorities in Quezon province recently uncovered over P10 million worth of crystal meth, commonly known as “shabu,” in the bathroom of a Mang Inasal fast-food branch in Candelaria town.
Col. Ledon Monte, the Quezon provincial police chief, reported that the staff at the restaurant discovered a package containing white crystalline substance, believed to be shabu, in a trash bin inside the customer’s toilet and immediately notified the local police.
The police found one sealed plastic bag containing 511.5 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated value of P3,478,200 according to the Dangerous Drug Board. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be P10,434,600 based on the current market price of P20,400 per gram.
It is believed that the drug traffickers hastily concealed the contraband and fled the restaurant after a team of patrolling policemen entered to eat. Some customers also left the establishment upon seeing the presence of the police.
Col. Monte commended the staff and management of Mang Inasal for their prompt response and assistance in the investigation, highlighting the importance of community involvement in the fight against illegal drugs.
The police are currently reviewing the closed-circuit television footage from the eatery to identify and locate the culprits.
