Oregon and Idaho Brace for Impact as Post-Tropical Cyclone Hilary Follows Drenching of Southern California and Nevada

Editor’s note: We have made changes to indicate that Hillary is now a post-tropical cyclone.

Hillary, previously a post-tropical cyclone, is on a direct path towards Oregon and Idaho following heavy rainfall in Southern California over the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center has stated on Monday morning that localized but significant flash flooding may occur in parts of Oregon and Idaho as Hillary approaches these states.

The latest advisory from the hurricane center mentions, “Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches with localized areas potentially receiving even more is expected until Tuesday morning.”

Moreover, the risks persist for the states that have already experienced the impact of Hillary.

The hurricane center has issued a warning about the possibility of “continuing life-threatening and locally catastrophic flooding” in these areas.

Flood watches were in effect on Monday afternoon for parts of seven states, including Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah, as reported by the National Weather Service. High-wind advisories were also issued for certain areas in Nevada, Idaho, Montana, and Utah.

The storm’s movement towards the Northwest and Mountain West coincides with ongoing wildfires in the region, resulting in poor air quality in Seattle and Portland recently.
