Optimal Time for Enjoying Attractions at Disney World — Minimizing Waiting Times

  • While Disney World’s fireworks are truly amazing, there is a better use of your time after you’ve seen them.
  • During the fireworks, the lines for rides are much shorter, sometimes non-existent, allowing you to walk right on.
  • Riding popular attractions during the fireworks shows also helps me save on Genie+ costs.

The fireworks at Disney World are truly magical. Magic Kingdom and Epcot come alive with lights, project mapping technology, and beautiful music.

However, once you’ve seen them once, it’s enough. Instead, take advantage of the significantly shorter lines and enjoy some of your favorite rides, maybe even multiple times.

Most guests gather around the castle during the fireworks

Some guests tend to crowd the front of Cinderella Castle several hours before Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom. However, the crowds really start to gather in the hub area and along Main Street about half an hour before the show starts, which can cause anxiety for some.

Luckily, at that point, some of the best rides become ghost towns. You can walk right on popular rides like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad instead of waiting in line. Even on busier nights, the lines are much shorter than during the day.

Some rides, like Big Thunder, have fun lighting effects at night, adding to the excitement. And when the Tron coaster eventually switches to a traditional standby queue instead of virtual, riding it at night during the fireworks will be even more thrilling.

The fireworks show is also a great time to enjoy rides at Epcot

Epcot’s fireworks don’t attract the same level of crowds as Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom, but the back half of the park can get crowded due to the fireworks being over the World Showcase Lagoon.

However, you can take advantage of this by riding the attractions at the front of the park, such as Soarin’ and Test Track, during the fireworks show. Experiencing the outdoor launch of Test Track in the dark is especially cool, and if you time it right, you might be speeding around the track as the fireworks go off.

Although Epcot’s popular ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind currently uses a virtual queue, it’s worth considering riding it during the fireworks show once it switches to standby.
