Officials say German man wearing bulletproof vest tried to enter U.S. Embassy in Paraguay

A German man was apprehended at the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay on Tuesday for attempting to gain entry without proper documentation. Upon further inspection, authorities discovered two firearms and ammunition in his vehicle.

The individual, identified as Philipp Kolberg, claimed that he sought political asylum due to ongoing threats. Gilberto Fleitas, the commander of Paraguayan police, confirmed this information.

Fleitas explained, “According to Kolberg, he contacted the embassy in order to speak with a diplomatic representative. However, the person he spoke with advised him to contact the German embassy instead.”

Undeterred, Kolberg proceeded to drive his vehicle to the front of the U.S. Embassy in Asuncion. However, he was promptly arrested by police and private guards as he lacked an appointment and proper documents.

Fleitas reported that authorities found a Glock pistol, a rifle with a telescopic sight, a drone, and approximately 30 to 50 bullets in Kolberg’s vehicle.

Kolberg has yet to make any comments to the press. Fleitas stated, “We are in contact with the German consulate in Asuncion to gather additional information about this individual.”

As of now, the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay has not released a statement regarding this incident.
