Newsom’s Senate Pick: Laphonza Butler – A Strategic Move Fueled by Virtue Signaling? Unveiling the Inside Story

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Gone are the days when competence and qualifications were valued as essential qualities. The Democrat Party that we see today has abandoned these virtues that were once the foundation of liberal Democrats.

As the son of a civil rights leader and former NAACP chapter president, I have witnessed the progress our country has made.

Unfortunately, the actions of liberal politicians do not reflect true progress. Instead, they engage in virtue signaling by appointing officials based solely on their identity, rather than considering their character and qualifications. This approach is contradictory to the principles that civil rights freedom fighters like my father fought for.

GOP LAWMAKER ISSA DEMANDS ANSWERS FROM NEWSOM, SENATE LEADERS ON LAPHONZA BUTLER’S MARYLAND RESIDENCY

California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, is doing a disservice to the constituents who elected him. Instead of choosing a replacement for the vacant U.S. Senate seat from among the millions of Californians, he prioritizes the candidate’s race, gender, and sexuality, even if she doesn’t reside in the state.

By selecting Laphonza Butler of Maryland to be the senator from California, Newsom is clearly indicating what he thinks of the residents of his own state.

Being a Black female member of the LGBT community may align with Newsom’s pandering agenda, but residing in the state seems to be a criteria he’s willing to overlook.

This, in itself, is an injustice. Perhaps there will be social justice groups in California that will protest and highlight Newsom’s hypocrisy.

This is not the first time California has witnessed such a situation. Look at Vice President Kamala Harris, who was a former U.S. senator from the state. In 2020, when Joe Biden pledged to select a Black woman as his running mate, it became clear that Harris was chosen based on her race and gender, rather than her merit. Unfortunately, her tenure as vice president has resulted in the lowest approval rating in history.

Aside from her racial and sexual identity, Newsom’s pick, Laphonza Butler, is known for being a successful fundraiser for pro-choice candidates nationwide. This network of donors will undoubtedly come in handy if Newsom plans to run for president in the future.

When I was elected attorney general of Indiana in 2016, voters saw past my race and recognized me as a leader who would defend their way of life as outlined by our Constitution.
