New WhatsApp update raises concerns as it allows friends to access your entire screen

Be cautious of the new WhatsApp update that allows friends to see EVERYTHING on your screen

  • WhatsApp has introduced a popular video call feature called Screen Share
  • This function, which is already offered by some video platforms, will be rolled out soon
  • Exercise caution before clicking ‘Share’ as your friends will be able to see everything

WhatsApp has implemented several changes in recent years to improve user experience.

Users can now react to messages, create personalized stickers, secure private chats, and even edit their messages.

There are more updates on the way, including the new ‘Screen Share’ feature that allows your WhatsApp contacts to view your smartphone screen.

The company announced this major update last week, but there’s no need to worry.

The introduction of ‘Screen Share’ simply allows users to show portions of websites they are browsing, viewable documents, or provide guidance on accessing features on the app or device.

Many other apps, such as Google Meet, Microsoft Meet, Zoom, and Apple’s FaceTime, already offer this basic feature for traditional video conferencing.

In a press release, Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, further explained the update: ‘Whether sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support – screen sharing lets you share a live view of your screen during the call.’

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, posted about the new update on social media, sharing a picture of himself in a WhatsApp group call where someone was sharing their screen.

Once the update is rolled out in the next few weeks, users will see a ‘Share icon’ in the app
