New US Human Rights Envoy Subjected to Misogynistic Insults by North Korea

North Korea’s response to the appointment of Julie Turner as the U.S. special envoy for monitoring their human rights record was laced with misogynistic insults. In a statement released by North Korea’s Central News Agency, Turner was referred to as a “wicked woman” and a “political housemaid” serving U.S. interests.

The statement goes on to claim that Turner’s appointment is merely an attempt by the Biden administration to interfere in another country’s affairs. North Korea dismisses any criticisms of their human rights record as baseless.

The agency adds, “Turner should understand that she has been chosen as a political housemaid and a scapegoat for the ‘human rights’ agenda aimed at pressuring the DPRK. This is an ill-conceived policy driven by the Biden administration’s struggle in the DPRK-U.S. nuclear confrontation.”

The statement suggests that this appointment could potentially backfire and result in severe security issues, although the specifics of what those issues may entail are not provided.

In recent weeks, tensions between North Korea and the U.S. have escalated. An incident involving a U.S. Army soldier defecting by crossing the border has contributed to these tensions. The soldier defected just before his scheduled flight to the U.S. for discharge.

Additionally, North Korea has been launching a series of long-range missiles towards Japan and into the sea, causing security concerns among U.S. allies in the region. These missile launches coincide with the U.S. intensifying joint military exercises with South Korea.
