New CEO appointed by Bowers Museum

Bowers Museum announced on Friday that it has hired Sean O’Harrow, the executive director of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri, as its new president and CEO. O’Harrow will be taking over from Peter C. Keller, who held the position for three decades until his passing in November.

Anne Shih, the chairwoman of the museum’s Board of Governors, described O’Harrow as “an exceptional leader with a deep passion for the arts.” She expressed excitement about the museum’s future under O’Harrow’s leadership, stating that his vision perfectly aligns with the museum’s mission.

O’Harrow expressed his gratitude and humility at joining the Bowers Museum, stating that he is eager to collaborate with the talented staff and board in order to further elevate the museum’s impact. He acknowledged Dr. Keller’s role in creating a remarkable institution and expressed honor at being appointed as his successor.

O’Harrow brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the leader of several notable art museums, including the Honolulu Museum of Art, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, and the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. He holds a doctorate from Cambridge University and a bachelor’s degree in art history from Harvard University.
