7-Eleven Introduces Pumpkin Spice Latte Nearly Two Months Ahead of Autumn

7-Eleven, the popular convenience chain, is embracing the anticipation of cooler weather by launching its Pumpkin Spice Latte nearly two months ahead of the official start of fall. On August 1, the company announced on its website, “Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back. Too soon? Too late. We’re taking the lead in manifesting cooler days. Sorry ’bout it.” This Texas-based franchise, known for its over 13,000 locations in the US and Canada, is now offering Pumpkin Spice Lattes to customers until October 31. The latte is a delicious blend of creamy coffee infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spices, though it does not actually contain pumpkin. Additionally, the company is serving pumpkin-flavored coffees and syrups. In a press release, Dennis Phelps, 7-Eleven’s SVP of merchandising, stated, “We know our customers eagerly await their favorite fall flavors all year long…so we decided to introduce pumpkin a little earlier this year.”

This early release gives 7-Eleven a head start on Starbucks, the coffee giant responsible for starting the Pumpkin Spice Latte craze back in 2003. Every year, the arrival of the PSL sees a boost in sales, with Starbucks experiencing a 12% increase in the week following last year’s debut on August 30, according to transaction analytics firm Bloomberg Second Measure. In fact, it was their most successful post-PSL launch week to date. The pumpkin-flavored trend generates at least $500 million in consumer spending annually in the US.

Starbucks, the largest coffeehouse chain in America, has confirmed that they will be offering pumpkin-spiced drinks on August 24. Typically, Starbucks unveils its fall menu on the final Tuesday of August. A purported leaked menu by food blogger @markie_devo on Instagram reveals a variety of pumpkin-flavored options, including the beloved Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, and the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato. Rumored additions include an Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte and an Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. In terms of food, returning favorites such as the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin and the Owl Cake Pop will make an appearance. Additionally, select stores will offer a new Baked Apple Croissant, but only if they have the means to warm it up before serving. Starbucks’ competitors, Dunkin’ and 7-Eleven, are following suit and planning to launch their own fall menus by the end of August.

Dunkin’, a rival coffee shop, is also jumping ahead into the fall season by releasing its lineup of pumpkin treats on August 16. Fans of Dunkin’s brews can look forward to the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, as well as pumpkin-flavored donuts, donut holes, and muffins. To further embrace the fall spirit, Dunkin’ will introduce a Maple Sugar Bacon Breakfast Sandwich and Snackin’ Bacon. In addition, a special Halloween menu will be available from October 11 to 31.

Overall, the convenience chains 7-Eleven, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ are all vying for customers’ attention with their delicious and seasonal offerings, ensuring everyone can enjoy the flavors of fall.
